PyAI DC and FastMCP v3

I was invited to speak at the Prefect-sponsored PyAI DC event and had a wonderful time meeting DC's AI community. Sometimes I'm guilty of assuming that the DC tech scene is government employees or consultants operating on an understanding of tech from 10+ years ago, but events last night disabuse me of that! It was an honor to speak alongside both AWS and government data leaders. You can see what I presented here.

The highlight of the night was Prefect's leadership giving some details about the upcoming major update of FastMCP. Fast has exploded in popularity (with 22k stars on GitHub as of Jan 2026) and will likely be the top, high-level framework for building MCP servers in python. It's a very intuitive framework that takes care of the MCP server overhead with just a few extra lines of code ❤️.

During the social hour after the event, it was really encouraging to chat with people who are equally passionate about observability.
